Welcome to the City Of Milford

Trash pick-up is Tuesdays and Fridays. Trash receptacles placed street-side or curbside must be returned to storage before the end of the day. The current trash rate is $14.25 per month; however, should you choose to rent a 90-gallon wheeled polycart, the rate will be $16.00 (just $1.75 over the minimum). A polycart requires an additional $40.00 deposit to guarantee return. Please notify the city clerk.

All dogs and cats in the City of Milford must be registered ANNUALLY WITH THE CITY OF MILFORD. Licensing fee is $8.00 (intact) or $4.00 (spayed or neutered). Bring proof of rabies vaccination to the City Clerk's office for licensing. Dogs are NOT allowed to run at large,  those found running loose will be picked up by the City. The animal apprehension fee is $35.00 plus any costs incurred by the contracting veterinarian.

Lawns must be kept mowed in conformance with surrounding areas.

If you ever smell gas, LEAVE PREMISES Immediately. then call 463-5490 or 911.

PLEASE DO NOT park in front of any yellow zones (post office, cui de sacs, etc.) Do not park along the street during inclement weather, as this hampers snow-clearing efforts, and vehicles may be towed .

Milford has a volunteer fire department which is always anxious to welcome new members. Meetings are the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the city's fire station.

City Council meetings are held the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m.; the public is invited to attend.

Building permits must be obtained from City offices for any and all alterations to property (fences, storage sheds, etc.)

A City Newsletter is usually published every one ortw~ months and delivered to all post office box holders, as well as rural Milford patrons; the "Milford Matters" news columl1ls printed in the Junction City Daily Union each Wednesday.

Corps of Engineer ground borders Milford on the north; south and west; this land may not be used for personal use such as storage area for boats, other vehicles, buildings, or planting of gardens, etc.

The minimum charge for water and sewer (respectively) is $10.00 and $15.00; billing is based on water usage. The water price is $7.10 per thousand gallons: while sewer is $6.50 per thousand gallons. The standard charge for trash service is $14.25 per month ($16.00 with a 90"iJallon wheeled polycart). Gas rates vary from month-to-month. Generally speaking, the first unit is billed in the range of $15.00 to $20.00, while each additional unit is billed in the range of $10.50 to $14.00 (these are only rough estimates).

For cable television service, call Galaxy at 1-800-ENJOY-TV. For, electric service, contact Westar at 800-383-1183. Twin Valley Telephone of Miltonvale, Kansas offers local telephone service, as well as cable television and high speed Intemet; their number is 800-515-3311.

Several organizations are available for various interests. In Milford, these include: 4-H, Mini 4-H, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Youth Sports, Booster Club, Lions Club, Friendship Club, Walleye Club, Milford Volunteer Fire Department and others in the area. Some of the clubs have no membership fee and all will welcome you. Please contact the city offices for persons in charge.

Kindergarten through fifth grade students attend Milford Elementary School; bus service is provided for older students to Junction City, as Milford is in Geary County USD #475. Some residents obtain permission from the Wakefield School Board and transport their junior high-senior high students to that school.

If you have any questions regarding the above matters, our services or this area, please phone the City Office at 463­ 5490 and we'll do our best to help you. The office is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, except on federal holidays or in special unforeseen circumstances. If a holiday falls on Sunday, the city observes the holiday the following Monday. City employees are available for connection and disconnection of service 8 a.m. to 3 pm. Monday through Friday only. Personnel are on call 24 hours a day for EMERGENCY calls only.
